is anyone working?

December 14th, 2020 at 07:29 pm

Not a real question just a observation in my world if someone asks me to do a task i get it done not spread it out and use the work from home as a reason it takes longer etc.

In my area there are many jobs out there offering better pay then they use to and no takers ?   People have said they are waiting to see if the "extra" in unemployment ends...... Makes no sense to me if there was a job that paid similarly i would not sit and ride unemployment until it runs out then be more desperate in picking a new job/ industry /career.....

The company i am working for has been steadily hiring but guess what many stay.... 3months which is the amount of time in this state to re-up for unemployment. People are often complaining about those who want to get back to work in a normal way as selfish and money is a priority over lives but what do you say about these people who simply do not want to work at all anymore?   sit in the floaty chairs like the movie Wall-E and wait for grub hub to drop off food and a small check from unemployment they know they can use " covid" as an excuse for the gap in their resume etc. .......LMAO

Honestly this whole situation has made me see many people in a whole new light and often not in a good way.

I think they made a really big mistake when they raised unemployment benefits for Covid. They should have left them the same so people would be motivated to look for work. And they should not have lifted the requirement that you had to look for work while on unemployment. Or that you had to accept what you were offered.

I don't know anyone not looking for work either who isn't at home doing "home schooling". I guess a lot depends on how much the people you know made. Most made more than the maximum of unemployment so its worth looking for work. I bet if you make more on unemployment then yes. But usually it doesn't replace it 100%. I think the maximum where i live is $600/week or around $2400/month so $30k/year. Most people I know do make more than that and that's probably why they are looking.

Yes, still working. As a nurse, in a large hospital. Covid has climbed again, we are really busy, sadly. Praying for all..

I find my own productivity waxes and wanes working from home. Kind of like it did in the office I guess but more widely varied. But, if I need to get something done and I've wasted time during the work day, I make it up at night or on the weekends. But yeah, some folks don't have that flexibility in the work they do and if they're dealing with kids, house stuff, depression/anxiety/loneliness from being locked down, their work is not gonna be up to the usual par. I kind of think that's OK.

At least, since we have fewer meetings, I think it's kind of balanced out. I hope so, because we're a permanently remote office, so the new normal is my permanent normal if I stay at my company!
