taking a look around

August 30th, 2020 at 10:35 pm

All in all I find going out places often more aggravating then staying home. Then mask fanatics and self appointed experts tend to get on my nerves.
Between the saving on transportation in work from home etc i am way ahead in money savings but what does it matter if there are very few things to do or places that are comfortable to go.

I look around in my area and see MORE people that simply are not wearing masks correctly so if over half (Especially the Men) I saw in store have their nose out an often having the mask barely hanging on i could see glimpse of lip so it was to me about the same as no mask ..... WHY are we continuing this?

Then I looked again and I see it........Logos and every other company trying to cash in on the MASK thing.
I find it amusing so many people have always paid for items like tee shirts etc to be a walking billboard and now they found more billboard space on their FACE.
With more companies each day making tons of these it seems CLEAR that many mask producers believe this is NOT a TEMPORARY market, but expect this to be forced on us for much longer or forever.
I have watched a neighbor buying into this masks all the time issue and the paramedics that are helping her with the gash she got passing out from trying to do all her yard work in a mask in high heat. ( alone in her yard plenty of distance).

Certainly someone doing yard work alone doesn't need a mask, but a mask also shouldn't result in someone passing out so something else was wrong there.

I do think masks will be with us for a while, at least until there is widespread availability of a vaccine which likely won't be until sometime in 2021.

Personally, I'm very happy masks are being worn as we approach the fall because not only will it reduce COVID, it will also reduce common colds, flu, bronchitis, pneumonia, strep throat, and other respiratory ailments. Being an urgent care physician, that should help us a great deal. I'm hoping for a relatively calm cold and flu season thanks to the mask usage. As far as I'm concerned, people should wear them indefinitely, especially in the fall and winter months and especially if they don't feel well.

I'm so tired of masks because of my asthma.

While i Understand those who are happy with or believe deeply in masks but seriously, when out i see at the very least HALF not wearing them correctly to be very effective.
For those of us that cannot breathe or feel ill after wearing one, even short times i find it frustrating..... hanging half off your face you might as well not be wearing one.
Even though this area has a small print that some medical exceptions but i have heard and found most stores are so panicked about being put on the spot by the Governor to be the mask enforcers........... I have zero patience to explain to managers that have ZERO medical knowledge why my condition is excluded... so even if I can't breathe correctly and my oxygen levels drop I play along. then see half or more noses out and mask so loose it would not stop almost anything if they sneezed....so the theory of it working is right out the door.

I am sure neighbor has other issues but as she has become unbearable to most here... screaming at people whom are not wearing a mask outdoors in their own yard and talking to others even if they were well over the 6 feet separation.
This is what i have seen before as well .... some people who are confused about masks become self appointed mask police and i honestly could imagine her sleeping and everything masked.

If putting on a simple face mask truly impairs your breathing or oxygen level (for real, as measured by pulse oximetry), you need to find a different mask. What studies are finding is that many people panic when they put a mask on and hyperventilate so they start to feel short of breath. If they would just relax and breathe normally, they'd be fine. Have you tried standard blue medical masks? I buy them on Amazon - $20 for a box of 50. Many of the homemade masks and even a lot of the commercially sold ones are too thick and/or made from materials that just aren't very breathable.

As for what other people are doing, I can't control that. I can only make sure the 3 of us are following the rules and doing the right thing. If I see someone out in public not masked, I just keep my distance. I certainly don't say anything. The only place I tell people to put their masks on is at work, but it makes sense there.
