random thoughts

September 14th, 2019 at 10:29 am

i picked up my new glasses they are great it is nice to see so clearly again. The prescription changes slightly but the real issue seems to be how scratched up blurry my last lens got.
I am toying with my options to save up a few checks as a cushion and leave this job or pay / invest as much as I can so I feel like I NEED this job.

I think the biggest issue is i do not feel like i fit here. I have not felt like i fit in many a temp gig but this one is different. These people have zero sense of urgency and seem disconnected. The place in in a state of constant change as they are expanding/ remodeling and restructuring all at once in meeting a few more people in other departments I have been assured most feel lost like i do at the moment.

I am amused in people watching though Odd group to watch. A senior person in a important job but (approx 50-60 yr old) she dresses like PEG BUNDY (married with children). The highest ranking person in office had to remind her NOT to wear flip flops and now he does this weird shoe inspection as he walks by. Another upper management ( in his department) takes off his shoes and walks around in socks.

No dress code is laid out but it is odd to see those dressed like they are going to a wedding next to someone who looks like they just mowed the lawn. If i am paid fairly well $24 an hour as a temp. These people have to be making a decent amount but they are so cheap looking for snacks / lunch to be provided.

I ordered the suggested lunch for a meeting from lady who did this before me. It seemed to fall flat thank heavens we just put all left overs in break room and it seems to disappear immediately. I will try something different next time.

differnt choices

I have been at new assignment for closing in on the end of week three. This placement pays IMO far more then needed for the work required. I think it is because the industry is highly paid and they must think what they pay is peanuts.
So i should be happy right... i can make saving much easier and reach my goals. i don't feel that way i am bored out of my mind most of my day is pretending to be busy waiting to order a lunch for a group in a meeting.
I am working on paying off house 1 early and socking away for retirement but i think i will die of boredom before that happens. I know when i apply for lower level jobs that would actually be busy i am often not considered because i am too qualified whatever that means but i need a job where the 8 hour day does not feel like a week.
i know that sounds counter productive but at what point does job satisfaction mean more then how much per hour etc you make??

automation vs regular updates

September 8th, 2019 at 07:39 pm

I have been doing temp work for the last few years most time between jobs has been minimal.
I just started my new placement that is set to be a year long. I have created a new excel spreadsheet showing my payments and savings.

While tempting to automate the whole process, i am still set in a mind frame that temp contracts can end less then what they are set up as. it seems easier to just do payments instead of stopping a bunch of auto payments.
So i go in and enter transfers/ bills/ contributions every couple of weeks instead of auto pilot.
I set up split direct deposit but when first check was deposited it was only into the main account.
It was a bit frustrating but it looks like it is a big hassle to change perhaps it takes a couple of weeks and they just used the main account first because that is the one i always used before. i think sometimes when you start another assignment they just reactivate past settings and do not really look at on-boarding changes. I will wait to see if next one is correct before playing phone tag with someone.

new glasses

it has been a long time since i had my eyes examined and got new eyeglasses. I did not realize how long it had been.
i simply have not been as regular with checkups and such since we moved. I have only encountered sub par providers here and forget to pre-plan for visits when i am across the state in my other house.
My DH has changed jobs a few times since we moved the insurance was not always a good plan.
The lady helping us said our plan reimburses $200 per person for glasses but with tint and upgraded lens choice mine will still cost almost $200 more. makes me question the different levels of items since i have seen different ads for 2 pair for less. i wonder if it would be worth taking the prescription to one of those places to see if i can really get a better deal or if the low price in ad is for super basic and any options would raise the price to be close to the center i went to.
Has anyone tried the low cost option like Americas best or vision works?
i think there is a big difference in quality but i also was a bit amazed how fast the lens cost added up.

In other items I ordered online a few things for my daughter and the shipping was free as my purchase was above some X amount. they said 3 days now the tracking through fed ex show expected delivery over a week from when i ordered it. It is not something we can't wait for but frustrating non the less.
I am not a big online shopper is that normal, this is a well known kids retailer ?

cannot seem to make the switch

So when i started new job i told myself to tackle one goal at a time but as payday came i went back to my standard of a bit to everything.

I do not seem to be able to just make one lump sum on one thing then next check another. It is like all the accounts have their mouth opening saying feed me.

I paid extra principle on house
paid a big chunk of cc
added to 3 savings accounts and 2 retirement funds.
paid some basic bills and have just enough for grocery and gas for the next week

I did finally transfer 1500 from a low rate savings to my higher rate account but i still hate looking at the accounts because even though the TOTAL of all accounts is the same, one looks sort of puny.

It is silly that i had told myself to try paying in a different way but when the time came fell back on habit.
i know across the board type of action does not feel like i am getting anywhere fast. I just like to see across the board progress i guess. i really do not think i will be able to pull the trigger on the change for next payday either.
