2 weeks

July 26th, 2018 at 06:12 am

So as the title suggests I gave notice to job last night. A job I had applied for awhile back called and offered me a better position closer to home/ more money / longer plan. I was planning on giving notice anyway I just feel it looks better that I am leaving for something else. Was told yesterday this place has hired another person too to help with the workload ?? Other 4 had a 40 minute conversation about stories of bad personal hygiene they had encountered in previous workplaces.
I think the thing that settled it for me was since we had little to do my department was told to clean the breakroom for the whole office. NOT a big thing I have worked at places before that rotated this duty but I was unaware it was our "turn" and the reminder sent to all was a bit condescending.
No guarantee that new job will fix my malaise about working as many here have said they are in the same frame of mind ( all around the same age). I am just dreading the reaction today as they find I am leaving. I work for temp agency so sent notice to them, they can tell the client.
I am making hard goals to keep me focused on the next year of work. I would like to get as much as I can paid off and in retirement so DH and I can decide what to do next. He is in the mode wanting to do more travel/ etc but as he is salary and has a lot of PTO and I am contract with no PTO it is hard for us to work out time off.

I do hope the new job is a much better fit for you! You stuck it out and something new came around. What a wonderful blessing!

Why would the company hire more people if you have already said there is little for you to do. Incomprehensible.

Congratulations! I hope this new job is better--doesn't seem like it could be any worse of a fit than the one you're leaving! Big Grin

It sounds like the current employer is part of some level of government subsidy program or need higher staffing numbers qualify for benefits. 3rd, does someone in an HR slot get a bonus for certain staff levels?

I am as confused as anyone WHY they would hire any more people except in the last month they lost 4 or more long term employees. I am not sure why but to have a group all there 18 years all decide to leave together sounds weird or planned to me. Think many others are actively looking elsewhere too.
So I waited and waited for anyone from the temp agency to respond to my notice when I never heard from them, I wrote another notice to company too saying I was not sure of protocol thought it was the agency that should have told them. So anyway I gave them a huge opening to let me leave today saying as I am in training and can not do a lot it was completely understandable if they chose to forgo the 2 weeks..... heard back that they want me to finish the 2 weeks out I SAT THERE with nothing to do for 7 HOURS today I am furious.

Wow, does this current company have money to burn that they hired someone else to help with the work load?

Hope the new job is a good fit for you.

I am very glad you are leaving there, but I don't know why you are bothering to stay for two weeks if there is no work to do and you have stuff you want to get done. You've already been hired by someone else. Two week's notice is a courtesy, but not a necessity. If they had work for you to do or needed you to train someone else, that would be one thing, but they haven't even trained you and you don't. It's not like you need them for a reference. It's not like you've worked for them long enough to put them on your resume. I would tell them they either give you work to do or you see no point in waiting out the two weeks. The only reason I can see not walking now is if you are afraid of burning your bridges with the temp agency.

Lucky Robin you are correct and I felt that way today, wanting to just give them the security badge and walk out. I sat for 4 hours today sent a few emails to get some work. I know I do not need these people for a reference or anything but I GAVE them a wide open door to let me GO now and they chose not to. I will do my best with the time I have left and not make a big deal of it. other then being bored out of my mind I can suck it up for a couple weeks. I plan on loading a game on my phone or perhaps Facebook again I quit using FB a few months ago but it does give me something to kill time. As a person told me today I am not responsible for this companies choice to waste their money.
